Rounding Out The Kitchen

Next up on things to get ready, is the kitchen itself.  I’ll be picking up a new knife today from Epicurean Edge and I’m seriously considering purchasing a food processor.  I just read what Kristen Dole, from Dine & Dish, suggested for a bare minimum kitchen and like what she posted.  The Kitchen Aid Mixer she noted has been on my “Yes or No” list for a bit and I’m still not sure.  If I do, I’ll probably go big, with a lifetime warranty.  Something like the Professional 600 Series 6-Quart .

What would you suggest I add as an essential in the kitchen?  Below is a list taken from my The Kitchen page of what I already have.  Your suggestions would be most welcome in the comments section below.  Thanks!

Don’t forget your measuring cups and spoons :) I love my 6 cup glass measuring cup because I can use it as a mixing bowl and a measuring cup. Love that you have shears on there… so good to have.
If you get a food processor, you can eliminate the need for a grater. I love my microplane zester – use it to zest lemons, oranges and shred hard cheese.
    Have fun!

Peter, a Kitchenaid mixer is a great timesaver for certain kitchen tasks. You need to decide if its worth the space on the countertop and the money. If you bake and make desserts, it might be worth it. I primarily use it for making dough, whipping egg whites, and grinding meat / making sausage.

Peter, I had a Kitchen Aid years before i got a Food Processor and now I love having both of them. Some uses do cross over but I’d suggest going for both. The attachments for the KA can be compared to what the Food P. can do before you purchase them.

For sure get more measuring bowls /cups and ones with spouts on them [ Pyrrex ] for mixing and/or pouring. I’ve got them ranging from 2 cups to 4 cups to 8 cups. These are esp. .good if you are doing muffins and the like and can control the amount of liquid flowing out.

Do have more than one set of standard measuring cups as it helps not having to wash out certain measures needing multiple use in the same recipe. The same goes for measuring spoons.

Can’t wait to see what shows up on Monday….President’s Day. What pressure!

    Good start to this project.
